James, Rhys & Martyn's Travels
Today we started to look around the main sights of Washington. Firstly we went to the obvious, the White House, where we happened upon some VIP coming out escorted by armed police. From there we walked down to the Washington Monument and further on to Lincolns memorial. The views of that strip were really nice with the lakes and white marble of both monuments. It was a massive improvement on Philadelphia for history, as everything of any note has been moved from there to Washington, so there is much much more to see. We then walked down to the Capitol Building where we were in luck to see a protest in the lawns against an immigration law that was being passed by the senate. We stayed to watch things progress as the weather was fairly warm, compared to what we have been used to recently, until there must have been a few thousand participants in the grounds next to us, which made for a really impressive sight.
