I arrived in Beijing after a 13 hour sleeper train journey, I immediately checked my self intoa hostel and got washed before heading to Beijing zoo. It was my last day in China and I couldn't leave the country without seeing the Panda's.Once I got to Beijing zoo the sun was baking, the pollution haze over the city had actually improved since I was last in the city (nearly two weeks ago) probably helped by new regulations brought in by the government prior to the Olympic games beginning where by only certain vehicles are permitted to enter Beijing in an effort to improve the cities air quality. In total I saw eleven pandas at the zoo, they were really cool and it was well worth the dash to go and see themI didn't have much more time in the zoo as I had a plane to catch my next destination being Auckland, New Zealand.Apart from seeing the Pandas I got a brief glimpse of the lions and tigers.
China has really impressed me, Beijing was awesome there is tonnes of things to do and the city is more then ready for the Olympics, but I don't know how those marathon runners will cope in the heat. I wish I could have stayed to watch the games and in particular the marathon but I think the television coverage will be great (especially with the added benefit of watching it without the heat)!!I have met some really rude Chinese people and some really wonderful (very few of the latter unfortunately).I was extremely lucky to have been on a Intrepid tour with a group of lovely people from across the world and hope to meet up with several of them in Australia during my travels and also England on my return.I loved 90% of the food in China, I only had a couple of bad meals but had no ill effects. The toilets are best not spoken about, and incredibly the history of this country goes back a staggering 6,000 years wow!I was so sad to leave this country especially Shanghai as I had been there for 6 days, I felt settled there probably because Mojo's cafe and the tea houses were a second home to me during my stay but it's time to move on and I am so looking forward to New Zealand!
