It's just over a week left, and Michael and I realize the trip is coming to an end too fast. Each day is packed full of meeting various friends, family and trekking around town. Often we've been traveling to the capital, Montevideo, which is an incredible city.
The perimeter of Montevideo is surrounded by beaches, the city buildings full of European-influenced architecture. Every person seems to be toting mate around (it's like leaving your wallet at home if you don't have your mate in hand). I've developed an insatiable appetite for chorizo sandwiches which are sold all over the city by street vendors.
We also just got back from a road trip all over Eastern Uruguay. We went to various parts including Piriapolis, La Paloma, Punte Del Este, and Punte Del Diablo (my favourite). Punte Del Diablo is the hippy version of Este. No condominium buildings, just shacks... the people that are in the beach are mostly surfers. It had a great charm to it, and we definitely plan to go back to it on our next trip.
