Cairns, 8th - 13th September & 15th - 18th September 2010
We arrived in Cairns after Ayer's Rock and the first thing that hit me was the heat. I love stepping off a plane and feeling the warm air rush over your skin and this is the first place it's actually happened since we've been away. Even in Fiji we arrived at 4am and it had a chill in the air, and Ayer's rock wasn't hot, so I liked this place as soon as we got here.
We originally only booked in for 3 nights, but they upgraded us free of charge to a twin room which was an absolute luxury. I'd hardly slept in 2 weeks due to some very inconsiderate people in the dorms we were staying in, so the first night I slept for a solid 12 hours. They say that travelling makes you become appreciative of the smaller things in life and having our own room and not being disturbed all night is definitely one of them. Also an absolute bargain too as it was only $18 a night for a twin room with AC and it even had a fridge - bargain-o-rama! :) Naturally we couldn't get enough of this absolute luxury and ended up staying 8 nights in total.
We split it up with a couple of night in Cape Tribulation and then booked back in for another 3 nights, and bless the lovelies who worked there cos they booked us back into the same private twin room again even though we were only paying dorm rates.
However, even with the amount of time we spent here there's not really a lot to write about in Cairns. I absolutely loved it but we didn't do a huge amount other than chill out, catch up on sleep, watch Vampire porn aka True Blood and get to work on getting back that elusive tan. I also thought it would be a very good time to start a detox as it's baking hot, I don't want to eat much and I'm drinking 3 big bottle of water a day. Kinda cheating but think my Liver is thanking me anyway.
Now you may be asking what we're doing staying in watching TV when we're in Australia, but that's just what we've been up to and we're both completely addicted. Selena has also taken to constantly saying 'Sookie' in Bill's southern drawl of an accent, so much so I'm starting to think this is my new name! We have joked and said the next time we get chatted up in a bar by some ugs we're going to tell them that's one of our names and see how long we can keep a straight face for. :)
We also spent a couple of days working out the tours & activities we wanted to do whilst travelling down the rest of the east coast and have booked that up too.
The next 4 weeks are going to be real busy as we travel down the east coast to Byron Bay. We've got quite a distance to travel, but it should be a good mix of action packed tours, partying and R&R. I'm sooooo looking forward to it.
Xx.
