Very little to say for this day!! It was a full day of transition. The trip was from Ban Lung to Phnom Penh the captial of Cambodia in the South East of the country. It was a twelve hour journey on a public/air con/somewhere in the middle between tourist meant, and not, if anyone can understand my meaning, which I doubt!!!
The biggest thing to come from the journey for myself was that apparently Cambodian babies/todderlers love me, I made two new friends in the seats surrounding us. Linnea used myself as a foot stand and Jade was stuck next to window with an Aussie desperate to tell her his previous experiences of Cambodia and Laos, and weirdly his mother, this being a man of I'm gunna guess at 57.
For myself it wasn't such a bad journey, the discovery of Valium as a sleeping aid and my new child friends made it bareable, and the others seemed to be ok with it. Well for Jade, she was ok with it when she pretended to be asleep!!!
When we got to Phnom Penh it was late afternoon/evening. Even before the bus had come to a stop be were barraged by tuk tuk drivers and hotel advertisers. We stood firm, had a look at our map decided where we needed to go, which was lake side, an area suggested to us by Mike. We then had to decide who to go with, the girls, so kindly of them let me decide everything, and therefore I chose the nearest tuktuk. One of the tuktuk drivers who had been the first over to me and had a tiny chat with me, was very aggered by my choice and walked off saying f###ing English, f###ing... A nice introduction to Phnom Penh all round!!!
When we got to Lake side we realised that Mike was right and that it seemed to be the place where things were happening, Phnom Penhs smaller version of Khoa San road, on a much more handlerable level!! (I'm fairly sure thats not a word, but it describes, what I wish to describe!!!) The tuk tuk drove past the majority of things road a corner at the end of the small alleyway/street that was lake side and stopped at a guest house that backed on to the lake, which by the way wasn't inside from the road Lake side!!!
After seeing the room and agreeing a price we decided to stay there. We told the owner we would deffinetly being staying one night and that we would tell her in the morning whether we wanted to stay any longer.
There was hugh pooring down of rain as we got ready to go and get dinner, and while we slept that night.
