On Tuesday 1st April Matt and I touched down at Singapore Changi Airport at around 5pm. Here we were greeted after our 5 hour flight by Vicki Paine (a school friend visiting her Dad who lives in Singapore), and a very excited Ian Mann (a friend from school who will be doing the rest of Asia with me and Matt). In fact, Ian was so excited (despite wearing a bright yellow t-shirt with "Shy and Withdrawn" written on it" that he jumped on Matt and kissed him slap bang on the lips, claiming it was sent by Calorine Wilkinson (Matt's Mum).

That evening we headed to Chinatown for dinner, and all three of us boys realised just how humid it really is in South-East Asia. we ploughed through an enjoyable and tasty meal while sweating like dyslexics on Countdown. After being caught in a turrential downpour on the way back, Matt, Ian and I stayed he night at Vicki's Dad's flat. Matt and I were particularly grateful for this, particularly because of the standard of accomodation that we had previuosly stayed in, and were about to stay in when we moved further into Asia.

The following morning we packed up and moved out into the city, in search of transport into Malaysia. Several buckets of sweat and 5 hours on a coach later and we arrived in the city of Melacca, South Western Malaysia. At 2pounds each a night including air-con, we were happy with our accomodation here, despite the bugs. Melacca is seen as the biggest city in the South of the country, but its delapidated and shabby feel meant it was more of a stopover than a higlight. It was here that we began to understand the Malaysian way of life, and some of the customs. During our stay here we visited some of the local temples and the heritage museum. Malaysian food was also a new and pleasing experience. the standard meal consists of choosing some meat and a sauce to go with your rice. This provided us with many tasty (and HOT!) outcomes.

On Friday 4th April we moved on from Melacca to Kuala Loumpur. After a 4 hour journey we settled into a horrendously infested dump of a guest house in Chinatown. Following Ian's Thai Visa rejection here we checked out the famous Petronas Towers and headed back to our hostel. Beneath our hostel was a lively Bob Marley themed bar. After some excellent shisha and beers we headed into town witht he lads we'd met.

With sore heads and little sleep we departed KL on the 5th April after picking up Adam from Nothern England and Dave from Plymouth. Our destination was to be the Cameron Highlands, where we planned to do some Jungle Trekking.
