There is a Mexico, New York. There's even a Texas, New York. Texas isn't far from Mexico. Elenka and I stopped at these places after going to a baseball game in Buffalo, on our way to hooking up with the in-laws, Judka and David at Lower Beverly Lake, north of Kingston.
But our odd little journey has little to do with what this entry is really all about:
During our 2010 travels, Elenka and I met Lorcan and Brunella a young couple from Dublin. We were in the city of Cartagena, Colombia, trying to find a boat to sail to Panama. Lorcan and Brunella are filmmakers and their first feature length film "Without Name" will premiere at this coming week's Toronto International Film Festival. On Monday it will be screened at the Hot Docs Cinema (Bloor and Bathurst) at 4:45 p.m.. On Wednesday it plays at the Scotia Bank Theatre, 259 Richmond St. at 9:45 p.m., and on Friday at the Jackman Theatre in the Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas St West., at 12:30 p.m..
In 2012, Lorcan and Brunella won Best Short Film for "Foxes" at the Irish Film and Television Awards. Foxes also won two additional awards and was nominated for two more at other film festivals. Behold "Foxes" at https://vimeo.com/83593404 (you will have to copy and paste this url into your browser).
If these foxes don't shiver your timbers you might well have what it takes to make the journey through, Without Name.
And here's a short trailer for "Without Name" http://www.lorcanfinnegan.com/features
