Time for the next installment of our travelling fiasco!! We have moved even further north and we now find ourselves in Pai which is just north-west of Chaing-Mai. It seems as we move up Thailand the atmosphere is more relaxed and the locals are generally more chilled; Pai seems to be the most laid-back of all the places we have visited. It seems a bit of a travellers haven, more hippies than the local Thai folk! Our first four nights were spent on a piranha lake, with small bunglaows along the side. The place was run by Dave (he was English by the way) and we could have a few days to rein in on the money and relax with a fishing rod in the hand. We all ended up catching something- Fred had the most, then Will and I only bagged one. Although I would like to add that I had one fish that was.....massive, but it managed to snap the line. The amateur fisherman that I am. Anyway, after the fishing days we took mopeds out to a few waterfalls and ended up doing a 2 hour ride to some bat caves. Not worth the money, nor the effort...there were no bats just caves, fun!! We then stayed in Pai itself for a few days, walked around the weekend market stools, met a few travellers and discovered the many small bars the town has to offer! So I am returning to Chaing Mai tomorrow and then will head off to Laos in the evening on a 20 hour coach ride.....joy!! Pai has been by far the best place we have visited in Thailand and we have some good memories coming with us. The perfect place to get away from the hustle snd bustle of Chaing Mai. Laos I'm sure will be eventful...stories to follow!!
