Well, we arrived safe and sound in Toronto on Thursday, the flight was good, and we landed at about 5.30pm Canada time (10.30pm UK time). We took a bus from the airport to the nearest subway station, but we didn't have any change, and the bus was $3 each, but we only had a $10 so we had to pay extra because they don't give you change!! When we got to the subway, we couldn't find a ticket machine so we just got on and ended up riding it for free, so we made our money back!!!
We got to the hostel about 7, it is nice with air conditioning. We got a quick shower and went for a wander round. We found a bar and grill and ordered a full rack of ribs each, and a beer (I only had a pint, Jack had a litre!!). It was great, but then our bodies realised that it was actually about 3am, so we headed back to get some sleep. The next day we had a look around Kensington Markets and Chinatown, then back for some rest. Early evening Jack got really sick, so I went out to get some dinner myself and then came back for an early night. The next day (Saturday) jack was still sick, so I had another wander, then he felt well enough to take a walk to the CN tower with me, but we didn't go up there. We're going to have a lot to do here when we get back next year for our flight home!!
We had booked a trip to Niagara Falls on the Sunday and luckily Jack was feeling better. The trip included a bus to Niagara Falls, then to Niagara on the Lake and then to a Vineyard where they make Ice Wine and do wine tasting. It was only about $10 extra than public transport, and we wouldn't have seen the other things, so we did that.
The day started off good, the falls were amazing. It's so funny though because you have this naturally beautiful attraction, then behind it is like a mini Las Vegas - it's crazy, its so tacky!!!! After a couple of hours there we went on to Niagara on the Lake, and on the bus over there I started to feel a bit iffy. We had a wander around, its really nice as it has been kept to its victorian style of buildings and your not allowed buses in there. We got back to the bus and I took a turn for the worse. Instead of listening how they make Ice Wine, and getting to taste some wine (the bit I was looking forward to most in the day!) I spent a full 20 minutes in the bathroom, and was exhausted!! Then we had to sit on the bus for an hour and a half back to Toronto. It was a nightmare! As soon as the bus stopped in Toronto, I had to run off and was sick on the pavement in front of lots of people it was so embarrasing. It was in the doorway to a bank too, lucky it was Sunday and the bank was closed...
So we had yet another early night!!! There were bars and other places we wanted to go, but just haven't been able to.
Yesterday, we got the train from Toronto to Ottawa, which is where we are now. The train was ok - if it was a bus I think we would've had to cancel, I don't think our stomachs would have coped with a bus!!
We haven't really had a look around Ottawa yet as we have been taking it easy this morning. Hopefully we'll be as good as new in a day or two! Especially (if anyone has read hitch hikers guide to the galaxy) since there is a Zaphod Beeblebrox bar which you can order a pan galactic gargleblaster!!!
