We arrived in Mexico on the 4th of July (USA Independence Day) and got to our Hotel only to find out that there was an election on at the time and it was illegal to sell alcohol. The hotel was really nice a lot like a resort on the Gold Coast. There was a couple of pools, a BBQ area, a basketball court and it was right on the beach. When we first got there it was mostly American and Mexican families, we were the only Australians at the resort and from the reactions of the staff, probably the first Aussies there in a long time. There was a really nice restaurant at the resort but the prices were the same as a restaurant in the US but we ate there most nights anyway, the food was really good though. Puerto Vallarta is very much a tourist destination, probably a mix between in Gold Coast and Noosa, we mostly just hung around the resort and sent for a swim or played basketball with a guy from Mexico and another guy from Connecticut. The beach was no good which was a surprise. We decided to go on an overnight tour to Guadalajara (300 km inland) and Tequila, the bus picked us up at 6am and when we got on there was only 3 other people on the full size bus, our tour guide did the introductions and there was a Spanish and Dutch couple and Aussie girl from Melbourne. The couple didn't speak a heap of English and they were celebrating their 30th anniversary so we spent most of the time with Jasmina. On the way to Tequila we made a few stops along the way to take some photos and get some snacks, one stop was at a volcano so that was pretty exciting. When we got to Tequila we had lunch at a restaurant across the road from the Jose Cuervo distillery and then had a look around the town centre), then we went through the distillery and had a look at the process and tried the tequila's along the way at the end of the tour we got margaritas and tried some of the family reserve which then Manny bought a bottle of. After that we went onto Guadalajara (2nd largest city in Mexico) and we got to see more of the real Mexico, we drove through small country towns, farmland agave farms, agave farms and some more agave farms. We had a look around the city, got lost a few times and then went out to a bar/restaurant in the city and had dinner and a few beers and listened to the band. The next day we went stopped for lunch at another town and went to a restaurant with a female Mariachi band, and then it was a few more hours back to Puerto Vallarta. On our last day we went scuba diving, we went for two 40-minutes dives near the coast, we went with 5 other people and 2 English instructors. Scuba diving was so good, I found it a little difficult to stay at the same level I kept floating up or sinking to the bottom. After that we just grabbed some lunch and packed our bags for the busy days ahead.
