Day 18 - Monday - Clingmans Dome
Up early for our drive through the beautiful Smokie Mountains.
The next town along is Gatlinberg which looks really nice, should have stayed here last night.
Trip to visitors centre the off on the tourist route. 75 miles of beautiful scenery with lots of stop off places.
The highest point in this area in Clingmans Dome.from the car park it's half a mile straight uphill in 93 degrees heat so the view had better be worth it ! It was.
In the car park we got talking to 2 young guys who are walking the Appalachian Trail.
They'd been going for 20 days and had done 200 miles.
Only 2200 to go, expected to finish 15th October!
They were from Baton Rouge in one of the flattest ares of the US and had never done any hiking before. Big Cojones on these guys.
Bill Bryson has a lot to answer for.
Downhill now past the Cherokee reservation to Bryson City where we're staying.
No booking but find a nice hotel and get an Italian takeaway. Perfect with a couple of beers.
Day 19 - Tuesday to Atlanta.
Basically just a driving day, the first half through the mountains then the next part on the freeway into Atlanta
The only memorable part of thi is the reenactment of Gone in 60 Seconds performed by 2 idiots in sports cars through the Atlanta downtown traffic at about 90 miles an hour.
Dropped the car off at the airport then a last supper in Ruby Tuesdays before bed.
Not seen much of Atlanta yet but, still I'm gonna you.
Turks & Caicos tomorrow to see Kate and we can't wait.
