Day 14
First thing today was white water rafting. The river though the mountains, on which the rafting is done, is classed into two sections the upper part is a 4/5 the lower a 3/4. However, the recent heavy rain had made the upper section too dangerous for rafting. The lower section was however open and was now up in 4 region. It was brilliant. Phillipe our steerer was insistant that we took the boat into as many holes a possible. The water was freezing but the rush was immense. Going swimming in the water at one stage was not the smartest thing I have ever done but it was a nice way to cool off. It was such a good way to cool off that I though Chris needed to try it so I pushed him in when Phillipe insisted he take a wander round the boat. Cheaky bastered stole my oar though.
In the afternoon we went canopying or zip lining. This was great fun. Kate wasn´t particularly impressed at first especally as the platforms on which we stood swayed with the trees. However, it was a brilliant thing to be able to zoom along high up in the tree tops. Annoyingly, at one point I had spun to enjoy the view of the river underneath and managed to use my left knee and then the tip of my back as a break when I crashed into one of the platforms. Very sore.
Day 15
Very early start, all the lads were up at 6 as we were climing the snow covered, but still active volcano that overshadows Pucón. The views on the way were breath taking as you zigzags up along the snow and ice towards the summit. The climb was to take 6 hours. 2 hours to half way and then another 4 to the top along far steeper ground. Sadly my knee had swollen overnight and by halfway I had to quit as I literally could not put weight on it to force myeslf up through the snow. Proud that I had made it at least half way despite the pain but absolutely gutted that I had not made it to the top! In the end only Chris, Ian and Rob were to make it up. Ian and Martin failed at halfway, the strain from horseriding the day before making the climb impossible. Dave and Matt both managed to pull their groins. The only consolation was that we were able to slide back down the mountain which has now made me determined to take up skiiing.
