Good morning!
Yesterday we got to know the city of san cristobal and its beautiful. Im getting a bit annoyed of the people selling stuff, because in all the other cities we ve been to, its been enough to say no gracias, but here they wont give mup that easy. Demetrio had to actually buy bracelets off a girl, cuz she was following him
We ate really good food too. The first meal was like an omelette, but the dough was fried and inside it had really good chicken and oaxacan cheese which is a huge hit amongst us travellers. I wish i could bring some back home, but i guess it wont be so good after being 6 months in my backpack... The meal was cheap too, 15 pesos, so 1 euro. Later on after going through all the markets, where i bought a lovely blouse, and sightseeings, we decided with silja, alex and felicity to cook our own dinner. We all put in some money and made a lovely risotto with fresh tomatos, peppers, chorizos and of course the oaxacan cheese - all from the market except the chorizo, which is meat. That risotto was really good! and we had lots of rice, hehe, one kilo actually... for five people
After dinner we had a little bit of beer around the bonfire here at the backpackers hostel, and we also got some marshmallows to do around the fire. It was nice sitting there and chatting with people from around the world. The only thing that was bothering me a little was the temperature. After puerto escondidos 30 -40 degrees celsius, its really cold here at the mountains. I think its around 20 degrees and im freezing... hhrr! Good thing were off to the caribbean soon
Ok, but let me tell you (almost) everything about puerto escondido!
The surfing was amazing! and quite cheap, we rented a board for the day for 15 euros. The waves were big to me, but infact they were one of the smallest.. I really have to practise to handle them even when swimming if im planning to get to go swimming in australia etc.
For the first time in my life i actually loved sitting in the shade when at the beach. It got too hot if i was sitting in the sun all day. I i did get a little sunburnt again, even though i had huge amounts of suncream on. Me and silja are both peeling our skin off now. My forehead doesnt look that nice, its black and pink hehe. (not as bad as millsys (new zealander) though)
We were hanging with ana, anna and demetrio almost all the time. Faustine joined us the second day. The first night i think i told you already that we had dinner by the beach, i had babyshark -yummy- and then a couple of coctails, but then we skipped the disco cuz everyone was tired and my throat started to hurt really bad.. yeah i told you.
The second day we skipped surfing because of annas leg and no one else had enough energy for it. So we saw the seatortuises with demetrio and ana. Sorry if im repeating myself but i can remember what ive already told you.. Anyway, first we saw a tortuise couple who were obviously on their honeymoon so we didnt bother them for too long. Then one of the guys jumped in the sea and catched a girl tortuise and kept it still s we could take pictures of it. He also got it all the way into the boat and then back to the sea so we had chance to pat it before letting it go. It was a beautiful creature.
After that to the beach where anna and faustine were waiting for us. We played in the water with the waves and just chilled at the beach. The girls had weird beer called michelado. It had beer, ice, tabasco, chili and salt in it. It sounds horrible but nit was ok in small doses. I wouldnt have drank a whole pint of it though..
Then we went to the hostel to prepare for dinner. We had commida corrida, only 35 pesos!, which included a soup, meat/fish/chicken and salad, chips, tortillas and agua jamaica (water with some flower or berry taste in it - it was good!). The meal was great and ana left to tuxtla from there. Everybody else got back to the hostel where there was a party going on. I said i wont drink that night at all, but then we all had a beer.. one litre of it actually. We played pool and chitchatted. I spoke a lot of french (heheh you know... ) and actually today i heard that i sound like an australian cos i spent so much time with australians and new zealanders. The hostelhad many rules and one of them was that the party ends at 11pm. So we had to leave. Not everyone came to the bar babylon, but there still was a big croud of us playng jenga (timpuri in finnish) and dancing on the tables. Actually on of the tables was the stage so i dont count it as dancing on tables like in rymy-eetu.
We ahd a blast and continued the party till the break of dawn with the best croud! I hope to get all the pictures online so that you ll see the croud i was in! Back at the hostel i had a nap and then watched tv, so nothing much interesting. We were supposed to go to a deserted island with a laguun.. but then we were all so tired and it was cloudy and raining a little so we didnt bother because it was a one hour drive away.
We still stayed for one night extra in puerto escondido because we loved it so much. Ate some italian cos the mexican food is starting to taste the same.. and then just more chilling. The next morning we were in a bit of a hurry because we were to leave to pochutla at 2.30pm. I raced around trying to put pics online, dry my clothes, pack up etc.. I also went to the beach which seemed like a good idea but the i didnt get to shower before the bustrip so i was in sea water , sand a sweat for 24hours.. yak.
Pochutla was a small town and we took a "first class" taxi to mazunte, another beach nearby. The first class taxi was a pick up truck that had a roof on top so we could sit there and not get wet when it was raining. It was funny. Have some pics of that too. Mazunte was a reaally small place.. But that didnt keep us from not finding the beach eheh.. AGAIN! we got some directions pretty fast so in the end we did find it. The waves were twice the size of puerto! but thats why i didnt want to go swim there. So me and anna sat at the beach and had liquados - fruit juices- and wrote our diaries. Demetrio and silja went swimming.
Later on we took a taxi back to pochutla and waited for our nightbus to san cristobal. Everyone was a little paranoid about getting robbed on the bus because people had told awfull stories in puerto about that line and also the one from san cristobal to palenque (that were taking next). So we hid our valuable stuff quite well and i dont know how many of us really slept well.. I did for a couple of hours but then i tried to stay awake. Nothing happened though, it was a really safe trip.
Now we have the day still in san cristobal and then we hope to leave towards palenque to experience agua azul and misol-ha waterfalls!
Hope everything is well in Finland! Love you,
Liisa & Silja
