Slavonice to Frymburk, 134km - (Frymburk, another border town).
The good news - Jackie’s feeling well again.
6.30am. Had a walk around the little town whilst waiting for breakfast to start (we needed to be away as early as possible).
A good hotel breakfast was served in the Arkáda Hotel Slavonice, although we had to share the dining room with around 20, high-testosterone, guys from a Czech Harley-Davison motorcycle ‘chapter’ who were, by definition, rather raucous. I’m surprised that such a group were breakfasting as early as 7:30. I thought such guys slept in late.
In the event, it was a good day’s cycling. Mostly on the Czech side but we dipped into Austria once. The weather has improved: 23 degrees and that nasty wind has gone.
We spent the day pedalling through rolling countryside, woodland, farmland, pine forests, small Czech villages and around many many lakes. All on good roads that were virtually free of traffic.
Apart from lunching on stuff purloined from the hotel breakfast table, we managed to find sweet Mirabelles en route as well as juicy roadside plum-laden trees and wild raspberries.
We’ve taken an apartment at the Frymburk Wellness Hotel.
We’ll carry on west tomorrow. Not sure where we’ll end up (doesn’t really matter).
We’ve still got over a week to get to Stelvio.
