The Leaning Tower of Pisa...

After a very refreshing sleep (we both slept like rocks!), we walked up to the Duomo where the Tower also is. We got there about 10am so there were not too many about. However within about half an hour the place was inundated as bus loads of tourists arrived! We were expecting it to be very touristy and over rated but actually found it to be very impressive. The tower and cathedral are all very ornate, and have gone through major restorations. The detail in the carvings and even on the huge cathedral doors are amazing. And inside the cathedral there are huge frescoes and marble work. Hard to believe that they have been there for almost a thousand years!

Just beyond the wall surrounding the cathedral was....McDonald's!! The only fast food place I have seen here. Fantastic I thought... Here I can get wifi so will be able to message and post the blog etc. So I thought!! Well it would connect to wifi but that was it. Would not load anything, send messages, Facebook, nothing! What is it with this place and no communication? After about 20 minutes we gave up on that. Hopefully from tomorrow I will be able to get wifi again and at least be able to text etc.

I am now sitting back in the garden at the apartment. There are birds everywhere, doves, swallows,
blackbirds and others I don't know. And you can hear geese calling everywhere. Last night at dusk they were so loud as they made their way home! It is all so peaceful. We are almost in the centre of Pisa but still so quiet. And we have a church bell tower just behind us which chimes every hour, so we never lose track of the time!!
