Day 2 of the cruise....Napoli!
Woke up to the most amazing sunrise from our balcony this morning. The sea has been calm all night and we slept so well. We arrived in Naples at 7am and I was up to see the ship arrive into the port.
After breakfast (which is totally amazing...so much food on offer), we got off the ship to have a look around the city. We did not do a tour here, as we have been to Capri, Pompeii and Sorrento before so we thought we would just wander around by ourselves.
The ship is berthed near a huge old castle which dominates the skyline. We went past the castle and into the town. There is an old piazza with a cathedral and many many statues just up the road.... But unfortunately there is a lot of graffiti in Naples which spoils it so much. So in this huge piazza there is graffiti all over many of the old statues and in a lot of places around Naples it is very neglected and dirty. Not my favourite part of Italy I must say....in fact it is the first place in this whole trip I have really not liked... Well apart from too many umbrellas in Viareggio!!
The coast around Naples is very rocky and there were quite a few people swimming and lazing around on the rocks. It was quite hot today about 30c. Perfect with blue skies and sunshine. We walked back to the ship after a few hours and had a rest before it was time to get organised for dinner. Tonight was a formal night and Lauri was quite unimpressed that he was required to wear a suit. If anyone really doesn't want to get dressed up in a suit you can always eat in another of the restaurants but the dinner in Cuvee restaurant is lovely and i think worth the occasion. Once he was all dressed for dinner he really enjoyed the experience. Another wonderful dinner... Frogs legs for entree, followed by fillet steak for Lauri and rack of lamb for me. And then apple pie...yum! We were seated with a different couple this time... A British couple who are very nice, about 20 years older than us. The American couple had apparently requested the earlier seating for dinner and were told this morning that they could swap.
