Right, so where do I start....
I can't exactly be long as I have three minutes left on this computer and the lightning might also cut it out (that's already happened a few times).
But just a quick one and I will give you the full monty when I next see a computer - which will hopefully be in Queenstown. So Vick and I have travelled down the West Coast in what started out as great weather - rained at night then cleared up nicely for us in the morning for our walkies!
Buuuuut then the weather decided to turn and it has rained, I think for three days straight now. And if you think we had got used to it in Cardiff - well, Cardiff is a minor warm up to nz rain! Sleeping in a tin (our trusty Britmobile Hugo) certainly highlights the sound of a torrential downpour during the night. We thought we had got used to this sound....until Tuesday night unvealed a thunderstorm like no other...it sounded like we were inside a volcano, or a F1 engine, yes that's probably closer. Amidst the lightning, shotguns of rain hitting our roof and full 'disco! disco!' lightning bolts Vick and I managed a bit of kip!
Nonetheless this storm has done a bit more damage than we first hoped - the only road from the West Coast to Queenstown has been destroyed along Haast Pass (we are currently in haast villiage about 45km from the pass up in the mountains). There has been an enormous landslide over the road and the local authorities aren't quite sure whether there is a road still left.
But, as always our glass is half full: 1) they often have problemos around that part fo the road so they are used to fixing it proptly, 2) they said it should hopefully be done by 12 midday tomorrow and a reassessment will be provided by 10am, 3) we are currently sat by a wood burning stove (what's more to love when your feet need warming up), 4) we have a huge bowl of porridge and chocolate supplies to last us the night, 5) the other way around which we may take if the road doesnt open tomorrow is only 943km and 11 hours according to google maps (i say only with a wince, take note that is a short journey we will be doing in oz!!!), and 6) well, we are in NZ on a rather amazing holiday, so we can't exactly complain!
Will next update when in Queenstown (HOPEFULLY TOMORROW IF AND WHEN THE PASS OPENS!!!!!!!) so keep your fingers crossed and touch all wood that you see!!!!!!!
Love Ya'llll
mmm porridge is ready and another log is on the fire. YUM.
