Pam and I really love the DR! We bought a motorcycle and have been traveling all over the island. We have a million Dominican friends and are getting really good at speaking Spanish.
We've been thinking that we'd like to have a house here, so we've been looking at home prices and land prices. We've been driving all over the place looking for land "for sale" (Se Vende) signs and talking to the owners.
The price of land can be really expensive here. A lot of the people here see Gringo faces and see dollar signs. The trick for buying land is to have a Domincan ask what the price is, instead of us Gringos. We have some really good friends helping us and we got a great deal on some land. Its up on a hill and has an incredible view of the ocean!
We've already put up a fence around our land. We have one "terea", which is 629 square meters of land. Back in the fifties, the government gave land to the people. They decided how large of a piece of land was needed for a house and a garden for the family to grow food. They called this amount of land a terea.
We are currently planting a bunch of banana, orange, lime, avacado, papaya, coconut and mango trees. We'll also plant a bunch of flowering bushes and flowers. Its a lot of hard work, but its good for us - its hard to get much excerise on a boat.
Our plan is to get things growing on our land and keep on sailing. Keep working on our land as we have money and in a couple of years, build a small house, with a big covered deck. You can basically live outdoors here, as long as you have shade.
There's a beautiful beach just five minutes from our land. You can swim, drink beer, and eat pizza or sea food. Pam and I have been spending a lot of time there (we don't want to work too hard on our land!). The picture with this post is the view at the beach.

Liz Soester sooooooooooo HAPPY FOR YOU GUYS :) (Jealous)
Debbie and Jerry We enjoyed the photos and the videos. Glad you're having a good time. Don't eat that baby chicken. Eat the papaya and mangoes instead. How many cats can you own and where is the vet or in your case where are the doctors that can help you recover from too much pizza and too many cervezas? Much Love....
