Thurs 21st May
I have a new room and new roommates and it is BLISSFUL!!! After requesting to move on Tuesday, I had to wait til yesterday morning to actually do it. Went out with the old roomies from 104 on Tuesday eve, to do a pub quiz at a pub in Glebe. Was fun, we had laughs and came last! Nice to have an amicable parting, I thought. I went home at 10.30pm, whilst they went on out to Kings Cross. So I was asleep from midnight til 3am when they barged in, drunk, put all the lights on and made NO EFFORT to be quiet, so annoying! There was a boy come back with them, too, one of their friends from home, but he stayed over, in the bunk of the girl beneath me, and wandered around in his boxers and drunk from the taps in the bathroom and peed with the door open and such horrible things like that... it was a horrendous night, I didn't sleep a wink from 3am, whilst they all slept like logs around me, I was so stressed out and angry and so SO looking forward to 8am the next morning when reception opened and I could hand my key in and get the hell out of that room.
Needless to say I got up as soon as it was right and was waiting at reception when it opened! Didnt want to barge in on the new roomies at 106 too early so went for a couple hour long coffee at a lovely organic bakery on glebe point road, then a bracing walk along the waterside path at glebe point, to blow the cobwebs out and was actually feeling nearly human again by the time I got back to the hostel at 10.30am to check into my new room. I walked in and just stood there smiling for about 5minutes, it is so CLEAN and tidy and organised and nice-smelling and fresh and just generally ME, I can't even explain. It was such a relief. My new roommates are nice and respectful and civilised and I think we will get on just fine. They are a lot more on my wavelength than the other girls, who were poles apart from me.
Aaaahhh, character building I suppose, but experiences like the last week really helps me to appreciate the things I sometimes take for granted, like decent roommates and stuff like that. I'm just so happy to be in this new room now.... did you guess??!!!
On the downside, has been an expensive and wasteful couple of days on the money front. I was generally running late yesterday, which upset my planned itinery for the day, so instead I had lots of free, empty time and spent too much.
Today I was supposed to work at 3pm but work phoned me at lunchtime to say I didn't need to come in til 5pm. I was already in the centre of the city for Pilates at 1pm, so that gave me two extra hours to kill in the centre (not worth going back to Glebe)... lethal! PLUS, I lose two hours worth of pay, so I'm doubly out of pocket! I'm trying to internet time-waste to keep myself out of harms way but already did a bit of shopping, got a beautifully electric-blue hoody thing (which I did need... my white one is SO impractical for traveling, it gets filthy within minutes of putting it on... sorry frey, YOUR white one, and thankyou for letting me bring it, I love it and wear it but WHY didn't you remind me how impractical the colour would be???) and some long-lusted-after brown havianas. Both of these things were $25, which is really not much for a hoody OR a pair of Havianas. I also invested in a delicious coffee and a pineapple&coconut cupcake from the cupcake bakery, which I did NOT need, and were NOT a bargain, but nevermind!!!
I have embarked on a free two-week trial of a fitness centre, in Glebe and the city... they do classes of yoga and pilates and I can do as many classes as I like, for free, for two weeks (i.e. until I leave Sydney)! I am determined to take advantage of the freeness, I did Hatha Yoga on Tues, then Pilates yesterday and today. Great fun and good to be doing at least something fitness-orientated again, I have so neglected that in the last two months.
