I interrupt my usual blogging following a conversation I had with my family yesterday. We were discussing the changes that had taken place over the last year, within our family and the world in general, and it brought to mind something that I had copied down from a magazine in our hotel room in Copenhagen last February.
I reproduce it here as I found it interesting and my blog isn't simply meant to be a diary of what I've done:
What will we be wearing, buying, doing and eating in 2009?
CITY:
Abu Dhabi because your neighbours probably haven't been yet - and for the great shopping. Berlin will continue its reign when it comes to art and clubbing but Shoreditch is still the jewel in Labour's crown
RELAXATION:
Offline and unreachable in the country, far away from Macbooks, iPhones, or low-key, hanging out with friends with friends in a friendly environment where it's easy to kick back. It's all about being instead of doing.
READING:
It's time to re-read the best of the classics.
SUBCULTURE:
New subcultures will be all about anti Facebooking: real-life, small groups of really close-knitted friends. Intellectuals will also return.
SHOPS:
We'll shop online for the basics and go to niche stores for luxury, personal service and bespoke.
HOME:
Accessories and detailing will be in focus. Decorating the walls with art and personalising the walls with things that provide comfort.
I found this really interesting. As an 'anti-Facebooker' I really appreciate the ability to get together in small groups with close friends, and enjoy buying basics online. I've never gone away from reading the classics and with the purchase of my Kindle - of which more in another blog - intend to re-read them more regularly. Although I possess and use a BlackBerry, I am trying hard not to let it overtake my life and have it become an extension of my right arm in the way that the iPhone has done so for two friends of mine. As far as Abu Dhabi goes - it's not top on either of our visit lists, although we will go to Berlin!
I wonder what 2010 will hold for us? God knows! (and He does...)
