Ian and Nina left the others to visit Volcan Arenal, the 3rd most active in the world. Another interesting journey involving 3 broken down jeeps, Costa Rican roads are not very good...

On the way up the volcano we saw a 3 toed sloth lazily trying to reach some leaves fall out of a tree, spider and howler monkeys and some very interesting plants, including the walking palm that ´walks´a bit each year by uprooting and moving it´s roots to find better light. Really! We heard the volcano grumble and felt it´s rumbles and were rewarded with a fantastic view of lava flowing down the side and red hot rocks being spat out and exploding as they fell.

Baldi hot springs (heated by the volcano) soothed our aching linbs with a giant jacuzzi, pools of varying temperatures and a wet bar. lovely.
