Our last day on Isla Mujeres didn´t exactly go to plan, to start with I was feeling a bit down (think we are both beginning to miss home a bit), then at the restaurant that evening our meals were wrong...mine was wrong even when they tried to correct it and the waiter made it out as if it was my fault. This put me in a bad mood, which wasn´t helped when Ian´s card was swallowed by the ATM. The next morning Ian did his best to speak to the bank on the phone in spanish, but they were unwilling to help. Thankfully the coop have their heads screwed on a little more and helped us out with some other issues so hopefully we aren´t stuck in Mexico and Cuba with no money!
We then headed back to Cancun to have a couple of free days to sort out any other c*** ups that might arise. Thankfully there were none so we decided to explore the tourist area of Cancun...aka the bit we couldn´t afford to stay in! The words "spring break" come to mind for this area. Put it this way, there are loads of huge themed restaurants, including a Hooters and a club with live tribute acts and an all you can drink policy for $55 and a guy offering cocaine and ecstasy. It was kind of interesting to see all the craziness but it isn´t somewhere we would go back!
So, we are off to Cuba tomorrow for some new adventures. But what can we say about Mexico....? (not much since we were only here for a week!)
* I´m sorry to say it but the Mexicans will bulls*** more than any other nationality we have met in order to sell something. (i.e A taxi went from 20 pesos to 50 in the space of a 5 second conversation).
* Meat is really cheap, lettuce and cheese is expensive...not a great place for a vegetarian!
* They always manage to miss out a key piece of information...i.e. "Whats in the sandwich?", "Salad", "Ham too?", "No", "Cheese?", "No", "Chicken?", "oh...yes"...well of course there was, how stupid of me!...and..."where is the museum?"..."over there.", so we look but don´t find, go back to the same guy and ask "Where exactly?", "oh, round that corner, but it´s closed"...huh, would have been good to know that before you sent us off on a wild bloody goose chase!!
* Mexicans are fun! There is always music in the street and in restaurants, and they are often wearing tourist pleasing costumes.
* A lot of what we have seen is VERY american...it's going to be a shock to the system to go to Cuba next!
* They like to party ALL night! We heard really loud music from a club start at 9pm and it was still going at 8am the next morning!
Off to Cuba!!!

Leona Oh......dear..........Mexico is not a paradise for vegetarians. Once you come back to UK, you can have loads of cheese and lettus every day! If you want, I can even stir fry lettus and make several Taiwanese dishes for you! Sorry for not reading your blog for a while as I prepared for the GTP interview. I can't wait to see you!! xxx
