Ian & Claire's Adventure
We arrived after a pretty good 8hr flight where we were plied with booze and peanuts because their inflight entertainment was iffy. As we walked through arrivals we saw Sue immediately and she took s back to her place in the very plush new train.
We went out to the FCC international journalist club for a chilli and beer then chatted a while and crashed. Sues flat is really nice in the centre of happy valley.
Our first full day we went for a walk around the botanical gardens which were fantastic with Pelicans, terrapins and a great aviary. Then we took the Star Ferry to Kowloon and walked down the big shopping area with huge neon signs in chinese and looked up to the hundreds of tiny apartents going up tens of stories. We then went Wan Chai where we went on the escalator up the hill to the backstreets where all the great little restaurants were and fruit stalls. We then visited the Man Mo temple which was amazing, full of insense coils hanging from the ceiling and people brning insense sticks and bits of papaer with messages to their ancesters. We then came back to get ready for our new year meal. Sue had booked us into the most beautiful luxurios restaurant on 22nd floor overlooking the harbour with views directly of the fireworks. We had a spectacular 6 course meal and watched a fantastic coriographered fireworks display. We had a great evening.
On our last day we went up to the Peak on the tram and walked around the peak which overlooked the whole of Hong Kong. We then went to Stanley the other side of Hong Kong Island and had Tapas for lunch then we went around the markets and sat on the beach as the sun went down. We had a last ride on the hilarious narrow trams that rush through the city.
Tonight we go for a drink over the otherside of the harbour to see the view of the city.
We've had a fantastic time here, Sue is a star, she's really shown us the sights and spoilt us rotten.
Tomorrow we set off to India, we're really nervous.
