Day 2
Discover Egypt
Today I head out to the pyramids again with my new group. In addition to Rachel and Scott we are joined by an Aussie family, mum and dad and 2 boys and a girl. Grant and Jen are both about my age and Brianna, Mat and Leon are all in their teens.
We arrive at the pyramids and again I find my self in ore at the shear size of them. The sun is getting hotter and we head out to a view point. This is the place where we are going to ride the camels. We all mount our camels and head off into the desert for a short trip. The view of the pyramids from here is incredible. We finish our ride and back on to the bus to head down to the Spinx. It seems to be a lot less people here than on Saturday. The recent unrest in Egypt really has hit the tourist trade, normally these historic sites would be packed and now they are almost empty. It's such a shame that people are staying away as it is totally safe here and the people are so friendly. Back onto the bus and we head to the Egyptian museum for my second visit. When we return to the hotel we have about an hour to shower and pack up before heading out to Giza train station for our overnight sleeper train to Aswan. We arrive at the station around 19:30 ready for the train at 20:00. 20:30 and still now sight of the train we are told there's a small delay and it will be about 15 Egyptian minutes. An hour and a half later and still our train has not arrived. We are then told that there are two trains in front of us and ours will be the third. The first train arrives, closely followed by the second, not long now and just at that moment our guild tells us the sleeper train staff are on strike and the train is canceled. Arrangements are made for us to go back to the hotel and we will fly to Aswan in the morning but at an additional cost of £600 each. We get back to the hotel and crash out.
