Had a brilliant night's sleep - thank goodness! When I woke up I thought it was after the more usual three hours I've been having, but Iain informed me that I'd been sleeping for nine hours! I don't think I moved all night; excellent.
The internet in the apartment is so expensive - especially compared with Melbourne - but we decided to have it as the management reduced our rent because the air conditioning unit is broken and the rebate will go a long way towards paying for the three days' of internet charges. They really rip you off with their charges, though.
We visited Paddy's Markets this morning, which is apparently the oldest market in Sydney and is really close to the apartment. The fresh food section was fabulous and we decided that we'd come back in the afternoon to stock up with fruit to snack on.
The day was fabulous - hot and sunny - and we walked to Darling Harbour, which was just lovely. We had a wander through, checking out the Thai food fair on the way - and discovered that there were various tours of ships in the harbour. We decided on the Navy ships and had a guided tour of a decommissioned war ship and a submarine, which were both really interesting. Iain was in his element!
We were starving and thirsty when we finished the tours and headed to Blue Fish, a restaurant on the water's edge, and had a lovely lunch before heading further into Sydney, crossing the Pyrmont Bridge. We had a quick look at the gorgeous Queen Victoria Building which has been turned into a really nice shopping mall - we didn't buy anything, though, just looked.
We did some food shopping in Woolworths (it lives!) - great food hall - and then wandered back to Paddy's Markets, where it was pandemonium! The market isn't open tomorrow so the stall holders obviously wanted to sell off their produce and the prices had been knocked down drastically. Stall holders were shouting out their bargains and the racket was amazing. Fighting the crowds to get what we wanted was exhausting in the heat and we were glad to get out of there.
Iain's cooking dinner - spaghetti Bolognese - so that should be good!
We're planning on 'doing' Sydney Opera House and the Bridge tomorrow, so, as it's started raining again, let's hope the rain has stopped by tomorrow.
