Freezing nights in a tent, cold mornings and sunny days have so far characterised our time at the , 'Grotto', home of the book bus. We have both been sleeping in most of our clothes and have needed to source additional blankets and sleeping bags!
It's nearing the end of our first week with the project and we've been to the orphanage and two local community schools. The kids are fantastic and so eager to learn. As we drive through the outskirts of town into the more rural areas our large truck is welcomed by familiar cries of 'Muzungo', 'how are you' and 'give me one book'. Little kids run alongside the truck until their legs tire.
The delight in the kids' faces when we bring out a book is lovely to see. Their own school day is so different to the way we spend time with them. Classes are grossly overcrowded, resources are nonexistent, age groups and abilities differ vastly. All the kids are suckers for a little glitter and the chance to read.

Pauls Makes me want to pack a box full of blankets (for you) and books for the kids, makes you realise how lucky we are and how good are schools actually are! Love to you both, x
Sarah M Hi guys, from a fellow Book Bus-er and Botswana roadtripper safely back in the UK enjoying her v comfy and much-missed (not to mention warm!) double bed! Just wanted to say it was an absolute pleasure to meet and spend time with you both in L'stone and your constant good humour and generousity of spirit (not to mention those invaluable 'facts of the day' and invention of the 'Gilly Gilly' game, James) made the fortnight loads of fun! Have fun, stay safe and maybe see you next year! Sarah x Octopuuuuuuuuuus!!!
