I have recently discovered that my husband is a Dr Doolittle in disguise, during our stay on a rather 'odd' farm just outside Knysna a cat befriended him and would not leave him alone. We had planned to do some horse riding in Knysna but unfortunately a storm front was passing through so we hauled up in front of the fire, watched some films and played scrabble. Not all too disagreeable and James got to play a decent game of wifwaf against a Saudi who was passing through (Leon we are so having a game when we get back (James)). We met a very interesting tour guide when we there who talked for hours about apartheid and the changes that have gone on in South Africa in the last 2 decades. It seems strange that when we were children we didn't know more about what was happening over here, I guess we were too young, but we sampled a perfect example of some of the ongoing opinions when the owner came past and said to the guide 'You talk too much, blah, blah, blah' and walked off! Needless to say the tour guide was black!
Now in Jeffrey's bay, bundled up to protect against the chilly wind we took a long stroll along the beach, away from the surfers and towards the quiet and secluded dunes. Not long into our walk we noticed two playful Labradors trotting around nearby. As we continued they followed and we assumed their owners were nearby and would soon call them back. Some two hours later with no one else in sight these two dogs were still following us! As cute as they were they would not fit in either of our backpacks or our car, what to do? Back in town they finally found their way home and animal adoption no longer seemed necessary.
As lovely as the beach is, unless you are a surfer, there is very little to do in winter. We did however sit and watch the surfers ride the best right-hander in the world - whatever that means but I'm sure you do Stan and Lynn! Tomorrow we leave the so called 'Sunshine Coast' and head further north to Chinstsa in the hope of finding a little more of that elusive sunshine.
