First full day in sintra Portugal which is located in a historic area either in Lisbon (Lisboa) or just outside, I don’t really know.
The town is at the base of the historic moorish castle, pena palace and initiation well to name a few sites. Anyway it’s way up there.
830am on the patio having a cappuccino cause I can’t get a decent coffee like (Timmy’s) here. No cafe Americano is not decent coffee that is expresso with more water added.
Anyway I see staff bringing our tray of food and immediately start salivating like o e of Pavlov’s dogs. Dom had amongst other cereal which consisted of four tiny bowls of various grains and nuts. She claimed it was good. I had cheese ham toast and coffee which was great
Off to the center of town and grabbed a bus that would take us to the top and back. Two tickets 11 euros.
Once st the alleged top we had to walk another 1/2km uphill to get to the moorish castle. The castle is epic and fun to wander it’s walls that go up and down for nearly a km. Very narrow with steep drops.
At one point apparently periwinkle thought I was squeezing around her on one of these walls and stepped back nearly wiping out some young agile guy. Her ploy didn’t work, not me. Mental note keep an eye on periwinkle
Anyway back down from castle to gate then up 650m to Pena palace. By the way uphill again.
Waited in line for 1 1:2 hours to go inside king Ferdinand’s castle. Apparently he was a little b***** based on the size of his bed. Finished that then walked the exterior walls ( not with periwinkle was too scared of her to give her another opportunity) and then back to mountain to the bus.
Yep BIG CBD day coupled with aleve and I did alright. I’m starting to be dependent on pain pills but what the hell what could go wrong ??
Then had a beer and wine at a beer and wine place on a street corner. Bought beer and wine and had cocktail hour which made periwinkle very happy
At 730 off to supper. We were seated and then left unattended for what seemed like eternity. No water no drinks nothing. Finally a young waiter came over and we all gave him a joyous cheer with clapping. Quite funny and both given and received in the proper spirit.
We had good food with music but I think our young waiter needs to find a new job as he was given a finger wagging to by the person in charge about something and never to be seen again
Anyway back to our room and prepare for tomorrow as we are travelling to Porto
Take care
