The journey took 3 hours or so, so nothing hectic, nothing I wasn't already used to anyways. We landed at our accommodation Paraty Backpackers which was in a great location, 50 metres from the rodoviaria, always a welcome when lugging heavy bags about and not having to pay for a taxi. The hostel was teeming with people when we arrived. It seemed messy, perhaps organised chaos but after the place was tidied up after dinner only then did I realise that it was a warm cosy hostel where everyone felt comfortable and at home. Neither of us felt like heading out so we got an early night instead, preparing for a bit of exploring in the morning.
In the morning, we woke for breakfast. Everyone with whom we had spoken with who had there here said that the breakfast was by far the best they've ever had... In South America at least. And they were dead right. The spread that was put on before us was fantastic, everything you can imagine was on offer much tithe delight of the guests. Well fed and watered we went for a stroll around the town. What makes this place interesting is that there is an old section to the town still with its old worldly charms that haven't been changed over the years. Cobbles streets, white washed walls with colourful doors and windows not long ago became a tourist attraction due to its uniqueness in the area. The town is also famous as the home of cachaca, that devil drink they use in caipirinha's, my enemy who defeated me after many nights! I paid no visit to such a scoundrel, but their shops looked nice! Too be honest, the town was nice but not a whole pile to see after that. We visited the fort and walked the beach of you'd call it that but nothing much more to see on the mainland, certainly one day for us there was enough. We didn't go to the islands as we just came from one, nor did I visit the waterfalls as I've seen a few already, so two days, one night was enough for us. Unfortunately it was time to say goodbye to Ben with whom had some smashing times in Rio, Isla Grande and Paraty. Onward bound to the metropolis of São Paulo!
