Hello All
After what turned out to be a very cold night in our new hostel, Hostel Lobo, Simon, Fran and I woke to some serious sunshine, which made us spring out of bed. At our hostel we have free use of internet connection and free use of their bikes, which have no brakes, to brake you must pedal backwards, so we decided to put these to good use and head down to some Cenotes, flooded caves, west of Tulum! After a 6km ride to the caves in the morning sunshine we reached Grand Cenote. We parked and locked our bikes and entered to find the most amazing crystal clear water and flooded cave entrance. The water was at least 5m deep, with crystal clear views to the bottom!! We swam into the cave slightly to find that the cave was also inhabited by bats and swallows which darted around our heads, getting extremely close at high speed. Amazing experience especially as we set out so early and had the place to ourselves!!!!
After a good dip in the cenote we returned to our hostel to plan our afternoon trip down to the beach. We left around 11 o clock for the beach all kitted out, and jumped onto our mexican bikes and proceeded to cycle along a major dual carriage way, slightly sketchy. After what seemed hours, and feeling very sweaty we reached the beach, which turned out to be absolutely stunning, white sands, bright blue water and many pelicans. Time for some tanning and some swimming!! Many hours of tanning and swimming passed and red marks were seen on all of us, however Fran takes first place for the most extreme burning. Lets just say shes now got the nickname baboon despite the fact that she put tonnes of suncream on!!, you'll be pleased to hear Karon.
Upon returning to the hostel it was nice after the ride back to have a shower to wash the salt off, and tonight we plan to chill out and get some cold beers in!!
Hasta Luego
Fran, Simon and Howard
