Today marks the second day of vacation! I finished work at the foundation and will return in June or july to work on the Whale and Manta Ray projects. Until then I will be adventuring through Ecuador (mostly) and possibly seeing a bit of Peru as well.
The last month of work was kind of crazy. The foundation got a boat so we did some diving and various other work related stuff just off the coast. I was quite busy researching, writing, shopping, and constructing for the coral rehab project. As of right now we have one aritifical reef in the water at Isla Salango with coral pieces attached to it. The foundation will bemonitoring the reef over the next few montsh to see if the coral is going to grow. This was certainly the most exciting part of the whole month, though it wasn´t all...
We had 7 girs from the states move into the house three weeks ago. They are all working with EA for a month and certainly made things more exciting at work. I made it to the island again to work the Turtle Project for one last time. It is the end of the season and very few turtles are making it to the beach and almost all of the nests we watched the turtles make have hatched at this point.
As for me in this moment, I am in an internet cafe in Canoa, Ecuador. It is a small beach town north of puerto Lopez. I came here with Sonja(from Switzerland), and Julio(from Lopez). We have been surfing , watching movies, hanging out on the beach, reading, writing, and even studying Span ish a bit. Needless to say, vacation is treating us well so far! Tomorrow we are headed back to Lopez to drop off the boards and Sonja and I leave for The Sierra on Sunday morning. Beautiful, relaxing, nature-rich Vilcambamba here we come!
