Around lunch time people started coming over for a BBQ and Bathhurst. Its a big car race through country roads surrounding Bathurst, Australia. Adding to the excitement, all the cars are Ford or Holden (Chevy). Thus you are either a Ford person or a Holden person and there are great cheers when one of the competing cars can no longer race. I took off in the middle to the Arts Centre. For th fans of physical science, it is the original site of Canterbury University where Ernest Rutherford studied. I grabbed a kebab and a L&P soda, then found a sturdy column to lean against. Next I took a cue from old Ernest and studied Genetics as a brass band played in the Quad. It was wonderful and peaceful and perfect!
The band quit and so did I. It was off to Dux Deluxe for gingerbeer. Its most wonderful as it leaves a tingle on your tongue for some time after you've had a sip. Once the wells were dry, I took off walking through downotwn Christchurch to see what was there. I stumbled into The Bog, an Irish Bar authentic enough to Irish people working there. Boston pubs do the same thing though. Anyway, the beauty of it was three Irishmen having a jam session. For the most part they played Irish or English tunes, but the odd Johnny Cash song was played as fast and poor as I've ever heard. Overall, the experience was wonderful!
I got home in time for the end of Bathurst. There was great jubilation between Marion and Wendys Ford won for the first time since 1998, Ray wasn't nearly so happy.
