Walker's Travels in Scandinavia 2017 and others
Day 58 Thurs 7 Jul 16, Goondiwindi to Home 528km, 6 to 21deg, (must be back in Qld) cloudy early then clear and sunny. Today we complete the final leg of a nearly 2 month, 12,193km drive across the bottom half of the country towing our home away from home. Left Gundy at 7:30am and two things told us we were back in Qld, 1. The weather had improved significantly. 2. The roads had become fairly ordinary, especially on the stretch to Moonie; talk about rock & roll!! A sign told us that it was a bad road for caravan crashes. So, because we didn't want to crash on our very last day we slowed down. Apart from all the dead wildlife laying around and missing a live (very lucky) wallaby by inches, (heard his tail hit the truck) the last day was fairly uneventful; just the way we like it. Picked up a coffee to go at Maccas, Dalby and then a chicken wrap for lunch at Kingaroy. Struck three lots of roadworks on the Bruce Hwy before Maryborough but still arrived home at 3:15pm, so well done. The garden was full of roos who scattered when they saw the van; they will come back. Everything looked great; thanks to some great friends who kept an eye on the place and did some mowing. If we had to describe the trip in one word it would be "fantastic". We enjoyed every minute of the two months; even the s.... days, weather wise, had their good points. Good excuse to hit the books or go for a drive instead of cycling/walking. Admittedly we wouldn't go South again this time of the year because of the rain, but then again we don't enjoy the mad crowds of grey nomads up North in winter either. So each trip, no matter where you go, has its good and bad points. We are just so glad we did the trip, seen so much and came back safely and healthy. Thank God for protecting us. If you have followed our blog thank you for your interest. We do it because it gives us accurate words and photos for photo books on our travels, so when we stop traveling we can look back and see/read about "the good old days".
