Temp: Distance: Start time: The boys were keen to visit the trout hatchery just down the road before heading for Dalmeny, so we had a later than usual departure. We drove the 10km to the Gaden Road Trout Hatchery and waited for the 10am guided tour. The girls read their books in the picnic area. The tour took about 50 mins and then mornos was had, in the vans, before leaving. We had to drive back through Jindabyne to get onto the Cooma road. We stopped in Cooma to visit the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and had lunch before moving onto Dalmeny. We needed fuel, so had to backtrack to Bega (only an extra 12km round trip), and were then on our way. It seems=end like it had taken forever to get there, but with the slow descent behind a B-Double, it made sense. We finally arrived at Dalmeny Camp Ground just after 4pm??? After setting up, etc we went over to day hi to Fred and Heather and Ken and Marie (we are cycling with these two in Scandinavia later this year). There were a number of other people there as well. Fred and Heather have been doing this trip for the last 20 years, so it must be a good place to stay. Our site is on a slope and we have not been able to raise the front of the van enough, however,it is only for one night so not tooo bad. G&Y had the opposite difficulty - not able to get the front low enough. Better to have your head higher than your feet any day! We were supposed to have roast vege with salmon and pork, but were tempted into having fish/hamburger and chips from over the road instead. It was a good choice with very few dishes to wash. Post dinner drinks were had with the Canberra mob before teeth and bed.
