Walker's Travels in Scandinavia 2017 and others
Fine & sunny 11-27deg, 52km, av 16.4km/h (tot 430km). The earliest we could get brekky was 8am which meant that we weren't on the road till 8:45am. But only a short ride today so no problem. After only 2km we were back into Switzerland and onto great Swiss bike paths. The scenery on the ride today was wonderful, the best thus far. Started with perfectly maintained market gardens, then progressed through orchids and farmlands of all type and sizes, even an Asian buffalo farm. Saw a lot of grain (wheat & barley mainly) fields which had bumper crops nearly ready for harvest. Also rode through some quaint Swiss towns. One in particular Stein am Rhine is a big tourist attraction with it's very old painted buildings, cobbled streets and cafe setting. Lucky we were there early as the tourists converge on the place in droves later. We settled for a wander, coffee and bun sitting on the banks of the Rhine then moved on. Despite our rather pedestrian pace we still arrived at our stopover for the night, Schaffhausen, about 12:20pm. Dropped our bags and bikes and went for lunch in the rather flash mall. Being a Sunday only the food places were open. No such thing as 7 days a week trading here. They seem to survive ok without it. Walked up (291 steps) to the top of the local fort which was built in 1462 or thereabouts. Our knees seem to have caught a few maggots on the climb, but it was worth it. Schaffhausen was built on the Rhine so it has a lovely walk along the promenade with its restaurants, cafés and of course the flower boxes and beds. The only big decision we have to make today (and every day) where to have dinner? Italian is big in the restaurant scene here so that looks good.

Tinkie & Rob Thanks again. The reli's staying (boys) do home schooling so you supplied them with their geography lesson for today!! We all read the blog together and then discussed the photies and videos. Coupled with a wide variety of bird life in your garden (they are very good at feeding once they learnt to get up early enough!!) and the kangaroos with their gorgeous little "off-springs" (excuse the pun!!! ) .....well, who would need to go to school, hey???? Keep having the best fun. Love from us all
