Hi every1, sorry about the delay in updates, well wt can, i say i decided 2 move on from smells and hustle n bustle of Bangkok, n went east 2 Kanachanaburi which is a nice lil town that is famous for being the home to the tiger temple, the river kwai and the famous thai-burma railway where many POW died building in the WWll. Had a great time there n got a bargain on the accommondation 70baht anite which about a pound a nite and the place was really nice for what we paid. met 2 grls on the train from essex and gt tlkin 2 them for a while and had lunch with them. In afternoon i went to the tiger temple, but hayley forgot that tigers are actually huge cats and what is hayley allergic to, yes cats, so afta about 4hrs my eyes had swollen up and luked like i had just had 10 rounds with Mike Tyson, therefore i ended up stayin in the nite.
However that nite I researched where 2 go next and many ppl have told me that Laos is not to be missed, so in end Laos it was, so next day i got the bus bk 2 Bangkok and then at the Bangkok Bus Station(which was like an airport it was huge) i went to the ticket lady and asked for a ticket to Vientiane, in Laos. but apparently you only get the bus to the bordering thai town which should of been Nong khai(well so i thought) the ticket was a bargain at 4.50pounds, for 10hrs overnight, but when you think about it me accommodation would of been about 2.50 in bangkok, aso really was only pound and air con and a meal fing which actually consisted of a cake fing, banana and a bottle of water lol.
I was still non the wiser that i wasnt going to the destination I thought I was, until I got off the bus, at the bus station Thai/lao and asked the woman for a ticket to Vientiane, i couldnt understand why she was looking at me very strangely so asked again, and then she got me a map and pointed out i was 400miles south east of where i wanted to be at another thai/lao border at Mukadahan/sukannavet. I couldnt eblieve it but then i thought well at least id get to see another side of laos i propbably wouldt ave seen seen otherwise. So borded the Bus to the Sukannavet station which stopped at tghe border while everyone gets off and goes through passport control and fills out any visa forms required.
Then at sukkannavet station i had to board another bus to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. This bus was to take another 10hrs. but was definatly an experience, especially when couldnt work out where this clucking noise was coming from only to find out halfway through the journey me bag had shared the luggage compartment with about 7/8 chickens, which explained why the door was a lil ajar.
At one point i thought i was never going o get to vientiane as the bus seemed to stop at every bus stop for what felt like an eternity,as thed river waited and wouldnt set off till the bus was nearly full. and at each stop you got the market ppl coming to the window trying to sell you stuff from their trolley of treats. you had to be their to really picture it.
As far as the country itself, firtsly laos is famous for being one of the most bombed nations on earth as the US military dropped $2million bombs a day whilst at war with vietnam in the 1970's. But now the country has been tryin 2 rebuild itself and the Government has promised to be out of the developing nations catergory by 2016, and as you look around the capital you can certainly see the effort being made into suceeding. They are halfway through building Laos first ever shopping mall, and have built many highways connecting themselves neighbouring countries.
The scenerey in surrounding places is supposedly one of the best places on earth to be photographed and hopefully get the chance to do this soon. Tomorrow Im going to Vieng Viang which is one of the main backpacking areas in laos so acnt wait.
The people here are so much nicer, and can speak much better english than the thai's, but apparently that is down to the fact that the Laos rely a hell of a lot on tourism for their income.
Anyway im off now, places to go, and things to do, so spk soon ppl, il upload the pics as soon as i can, but unfortunatlty lost me charger for camera/fone so had 2 wait til gt bk to bangkok to buy a new one as battery had died. byexxxxxxxxx
