Thanks to Mr. Koos Nel we have a functioning car. He made a replacement radiator tank from scratch out of brass. The real genius of it is that the guy doesn't even own a ruler. This is why he can afford to look so pleased with himself in the photo.
Thanks to a Grahamstown doctor called Dr. Boort my bronchitis seems to be clearing up. I've got some strong antibiotics and cortisone that have started to clear the airwaves.
Thanks to Kimmy we are standing in the Atlantic Ocean whilst wearing full wetsuits, and carrying full sized surfboards. I'm wondering if it was such a good idea to try surfing when only about 50% of my lung capacity seems to be available to me.
After the first few failed attempts the surfing starts to be good fun. We stand up now and again and it starts to become quite addictive. It's a good way to get rid of the hangover from yesterday's day party and when we finally get back on dry land with dry clothes I feel very pleased that we did it. Excellent fresh fish and chips are available at Kalk Bay which is just a short walk away.
Cape Town is a fantastic city. It may have a nonexistant public transport system but you can't argue that it has better weather than London. Even Barcelona hasn't got the beachy, laid back possibilities of Kaapstad. We are going to the vineyards of Stellenbosch and Franschoek tomorrow where we will spend Charl's generous gift money on the boozy lunch he specified. Then we are due to climb Lions Head before sunset. From there you can look down and marvel at the beauty of this world class city. For aesthetics, I'm not sure there are too many to compare.
