Compass Points NZCA/LINES, Peru
There has been endless academic debate and discussion on the subject of the enigmatic lines in the Nazca and Pampa regions of Southern Peru. Maria Reich is the German anthropologist mathematician credited with having done the most to forward the thinking on the subject and to bring the mysterious petroglyphs to the world's attention. After a lifetime's work she came to the conclusion that the Nazca people created them from 500 to 800 AD, and were paying homage to their gods by reflecting the star constellations here on the desert earth. Other learned studies posit that it may have been complex water rituals. Some believe alien intervention was required or involved in creating these bizarre symbols, some of which are several kilometres in scale. Successive waves of invaders and conquerors (the Warri, then the Incas, then the Spanish) mean the true meanings of the Nazca people's efforts have been lost forever.
There are many unanswered questions. What was the true purpose of these 100s of individual designs? How could they have known what their work looked like from the skies unless they had mastered flight? Is that one design an astronaut or actually a shaman with an owl's head? Why were later shapes geometrically precise trapezoids rather than animals? Are you sure these lines weren't made in 1975 for the tourists? What do you mean that's a hummingbird, surely it's just a squiggle? Why is that monkey holding a fork? Etc etc
Lindsay and I breezed into the region to take a look at the situation in order to shed some much needed light onto this contentious area of early human history. We could feel strong currents of energy coursing along the ley lines in this area.
Our academic studies centred on a 35 minute flight in a 4 seater Cessner over the Nazca Lines, and I'm pleased to report that our findings completely support Maria Reich's hypothesis. Yes, definitely messages to the gods.
So, that mystery having been wrapped up, next stop is the man-made desert oasis playground of Huacachina.
Ciao.
