Jonnys Eastern Delights!
What an brilliant first few days it has been!!! I was hoping that I could just make some passing reference to the trip out here on Wednesday, but is was so tiringly fantastic that I just gotta give it a mention! The flight from Stansted to Graz was delayed a bit, meaning that when I arrived in Austria I was to late for one of the airport busses, and then the next one didn't even bother showing up! The time spent hanging around was put to good use though as I got chattin to a Croatian called Bruno, who spkoe absolutely perfect English, and also two Scottish girls Stef and Alice - all of whom wanted to get to Zagreb like me. After finally catching an airport shuttle to the bus station, we saw our conecting bus ready and waiting on the forecourt and thought what perfect timing. But then in the 20 seconds it took us to get off the bus the swine had driven off! So after deciding waht to do we dumped our bags and headed out into Graz for a couple of hours. And what a great place!! I kinda wished I could have stayed there for a night it was that night, and it certainly made up for missing the bus. We strolled around in the sun, chilled out with a beer and watched the considerable talent walking by - I could have been forgiven for thinking I was by a catwalk!!!
Bruno really was an absolute legend - he even said his mum would drive us to the hostel! After arriving in Zagreb he rung the hostel for us to get directions and then the girls and I set off. Half way there we were greeted by a guy on a big motorbike who really looked like he belonged to hells angels and shouted "Hello boys and girls!" at us. He turned out to be the owner of the hostel, and both he and his wife/girlfreind/sister (we were never quite sure!) were absolutely brilliant - they just couldnt do enogh for us! Gratefully climbing into bed, my Manchester-Blackpool-Stansted-Graz-Zagreb marathon was finally over, but it had been one eventful day!
Thursday was spent wandering around Zagreb with the girls, taking in the sights and getting slightly burnt! Zagreb is a cool place, just full of open air cafe bars one after the other - great to sit with a beer and watch the world (and the fitties!) go by - which of course we did! We arranged to meet Bruno in the evening, and he brought his friend Darko along, who was almost every bit a legend! And so started a long fun night, enjoying 75p pints during happy hour and being driven around over Zagreb by Bruno - travelling as Diplomat status due to his mums job!!! After leaving a barge boat at around 5am, we stopped of for the Croatian equivalent of a kebab (a burat) before passing out in bed around 6am!!
Needless to say Friday was a leisurely day, but I eventually headed out by myself around 2pm to take a few more pics and just enjoy the general atmosphere in the bars lining all the squares. Having a 530am start on Saturday, I fully intended to get to bed early - but alas that was not to be, as a couple of girls, Helen and Sarah, arrived in the hostel and fancied a couple of drinks - so it was back out again into the lovely warm evening for some beers and getting to know a couple more cool people. Getting in at 3am was just a bit later than I had hoped, but who cares when you are having fun?!!?
And so, after a non too enjoyable 9 hour bus ride, here I am in Sarajevo. A bit tired, I will probably be in bed soon - but then again, past experiences have tought me never to take that for granted!!!
