Well, this was the last day of our great European adventure that covered nine different countries (including the Vatican) over the course of just under six weeks. We got up at 4:00 am and ate part of our big "bagged breakfast" as Alex drove us to the airport in the pre-dawn darkness. The hotel had nicely provided the bags, since we were leaving before the restaurant opened for the included breakfast. This is something I've never seen a hotel do before! The check-in line at the airport was incredibly slow and we were seriously worried we would miss the flight, as we also had to go through passport control and security. But they held the plane up until everyone was on board. This is also where we said goodbye to Liz, as she was going on to Hungary. We had connections in Munich and London, with a 5 hour layover in London. So, since Dave had never been to London, Dave, Cathy and I decided to take the underground into the city. The trip took an hour each way, so it ended up being a one hour whirlwind walking tour of the city. We started at Big Ben, crossed the Westminster Bridge, along the south bank of the Thames past the London Eye (see pic), then back across the Millennium Bridge and past St. Paul's Cathedral to the St. Paul's tube station. By the time we got back to Heathrow the board said our flight was "closing" so we ran to the gate, but there was still plenty of time to spare. The flight home was uneventful and although it was a wonderful trip, it's good to be home again! This will be my last post. My main purpose in writing the blog was to diarize the trip and preserve the memories for myself, but I hope my readers also found it of interest.
