Back Dreckly
A swift 50 minute flight and I'm now in Adelaide, again staying with my relatives. How lucky am I?! I was picked up from the new airport in Adelaide by my uncle Tom and cousin Claire and taken to 'Happy Valley', a beautiful area just outside of the city. I got settled in and the following day spent all day lazing on the beach and swimming in the sea. It's a hard life!
On Thursday I booked up the 'Groovy Grape Wine Tour' which took a group of us to the Barossa Valley, one of the best winery areas in the world. En route we stopped by the world's largest rocking horse (strange!) and then on to our first wine tasting session at the world famous Jacob's Creek. It was a beautiful place and I learned a lot about how to taste wine, although I'm rubbish at distinguishing the different aromas and flavours of the wines. We then visited a few more wineries and had a lovely BBQ, which included kangaroo or 'skippy' as our tour guide called it! On the way home I went halves on a bottle of sparkling with a lovely girl I'd met called Carley, and was pretty drunk by the time I got home!
On Friday after a day's shopping and mooching around Adelaide, I went to a concert with my cousins and uncles to see a few bands play; the most famous being Silverchair. They were fantastic and I really enjoyed it.
Today I have been on a little trip with my uncle and cousins to Mount Lofty lookout site; a beautiful view of Adelaide and the coastline, and then to a chocolate factory, which was fantastic! There were lots of free samples to try and I left feeling very fat and full. The diet will have to wait for another day! We then visited the village of Handorff, a German settlement, which was a really quaint, beautiful place. I had no idea Australia could be so oldy-worldy. We visited more sweet shops and wondered the streets before heading back for tea and a bottle of wine I brought back from the Barossa Valley trip.
Onward tomorrow to Perth - my final stop before home. I'm tempted to travel up the coast a bit but I'll have to check resources first - I'm going to be so poor when I get home! I'll write more soon xx
