Aloha from Hawaii!!!
So I didn't get another hot guy on my flight here, instead a large Hawaiian girl. But hey, you can't win them all righht.
It's fair to say LA wiped it out of me, so by the time I got to the hostel here at would have been 2am in LA, I was ready to pass out. Of course they didn't have my bed available untill the next night so had to put me somewhere else for that evening which meant I ended up sharing a room with Tim from China. He didn't speak any english, and i'm pretty sure his name wasn't Tim either.
The next morning I moved to my new dorm, which I was happy about as this is much nicer. I went for a bit of a wander around Waikiki and then decided to go to the zoo on Leigh's suggestion. It was probably the best zoo I've been to, it seemed a lot more natural to see lions and tigers etc in a tropical climate then in somewhere dreary in the UK. It did make me miss Elsie though as she would have loved it there!
I got an early night as the next morning I got up super early to head to Pearl Harbour. I was given advice to get there early as the tours run out of tickets early in the day, so half 6 and I was waiting to experience the Hawiian bus system. I found the whole experience very interesting, but then I do love learning about things.
The tour included a 20 min film all about the attack including actual footage that the Japanease filmed during. Then there was a boat out to the USS Arizona. This was one of the battle ships that was sunk at Pearl Harbour, and was left as she fell, including with all the men aboard. They have built a memorial walkway above it where you can see into the wreck, where fish now swim and oil even to this day, still leak out from it.
When I got back I decided it would be rude to not go to the beach, and even swam in the sea (Lizzy you would be proud!) the waves are pretty crazy on Waikiki and it isn't even one of the main surfer beaches here. Makes Cornwall look tame anyway! That evening I got back and hung out with my roomates which was cool, the majority of the hostel are french teenagers who are REALLY annoying so it was good to find others here.
Yesterday Ashleigh my roomate and I got up early and headed to Hanauma Bay which is a nature reserve on the east coast of the island to go snorkling. I'd never been snorkling before and Ashleigh was a trained diver so I felt I was in good hands! You have to watch a video before you're allowed on the beach, this basically consists of 'don't touch anything' played along to weird hippy music. We got the message anyway.
Snorkling was amazing! I saw so many beautiful fishes, they don't even seem to be bothered with you swimming around them. David's roomate Hillary gave me some underwater cameras so I used one of those, so expect some fish pictures and probably me looking like an idiot underwater soon.
The downside of the day was that despite us both putting on suncream 3 times whilst we were there, Ashleigh and I both got horrifically sunburnt. So much so that I actually got sunstroke and was throwing up. Not fun!! I was meant to be going out last night but felt so faint I passed out at 8pm. Luckily I feel better today but had to change my plans as want to avoid getting my lobster skin in the sun as much as possible!
I'm off to the Big Island tomorrow which I'm really excited about as I get to see the volcanos! (such a geek)
Hope all is well at home and Latitude went well for all my FR folk!
Mahalo! x
