Hola!

Me and Kerry got up very very early this morning and caught the plane to Peru. I must admit that I cried most of the way as I have developed an awful fear of flying (maybe something to do with Egypt!). I dont think it helps becuse of the altitude it makes a horrendous noise on take off and landing between mountains means you seem to be falling out pf the bloody Sky!!!!! Kerry has tried to explain about thermals to me however I am not grasping this concept very well.

My first impression of Peru if honest is not good. If I had to match it to another place in the world I would probably match it with Iraq (first thought on the place only!). When landing it was completely industrialised, smoke pouring out everywhere, fog because of pollution, very poor people, guns, dust, old buildings that looked like they had been terrorised by war etc etc etc Five minutes later in the taxi and suddenly we reached a crumbling America. Peru is definatlely Americanised. We past at least 4 Mcdonalds, there are plenty of KFC's, Domino Pizzas, TGI FRidays, cinemas etc etc etc ........ It seems to be much poorer than Quito and alot less safe. We cannot go out on our own very far, cannot take a taxi off the street etc etc etc.....the atmosphere has changed, in Quito we knew our way round and it was on the majority pretty safe however this place does not share that sense at all.

We arrived at the hostal and asked for a private room becuase we have realised a dorm just is not us. Its too dodgy. We now have a private room with private bathroom which is good. We were orinally put in someone elses with their stuff - its a good job we are not crooked or else they would have lost everything!!!!!

Went to Mcdonalds for lunch and we are heading to the cinema tonight to see pirates of the caribean 3. I am so looking forward to hearing people talk in english!!!!!! We might eat at TGI's or have pizza. We are having a 'home day'.
