We spent almost a whole day on a coach from Airlie Beach to Cairns setting off at 930 only to arrive at 1930! The only good thing was the movies as we got to watch Fining Nemo and Titanic! Cairns rained both days we were there but it was actually nice after weeks of the blazing sun and it kept the humidity down too. We had 3 nights in a hostel in total and Cairns was a lot bigger and had a lot more going on than we had first thought. Unfortunately our diving trip was cancelled due to the weather so we had a look around and went to the cinema in the afternoon.
The next day we took a day trip up to Cape Tribulation and we met a really nice dutch girl called Marijke. it was quite a drive and we almost got stranded as there is only 1 road to and from and the creek had floded so we couldnt cross back over...we had to wait for 2 hours for the water to level to drop. we ahd a boat ride on river looking for crocs but none were to be seen like all the other animals due to the weather because the whole day we didnt see a single animal...not even a bird! On the way back we stopped of at Port Douglas where Steve Irwin died and this is apparently called the playground for the rich and famous. One hotel apparantly had pools which connected for over 4km!
The next day we flew out so it was a very brief time there but we enjoyed it all the same!
