Flew from Antigua to St Martin. We flew into the famous airport with the runway just off the beach an amazing view. Noticed a lot of devastation from the hurricane. It hit in September 2017 called Irma. Even the airport had a temporary customs tent. We checked in and got a taxi to our hotel. Couldn’t believe how many hotels houses and cars had been damaged. When we got to our hotel checked in to see half the hotel was still being repaired from the damaged. Also noticed lots of armed police walking around. They were from France as we were in the French side of the island and then found out they were staying at our hotel. They had been brought in after the hurricane to stop looting etc. We had a lovely double bed with an air conditioned room amazing shower and a balcony with a view over the lagoon. Also a lovely pool. Had a drink at the bar and evening meal. Just stayed in our hotel for the first night as everything a taxi ride. Slept well seemed luxury compared to the jolly beach hotel. Also odd everyone speaking French
