We motored around Southend pier until 4am then started to make our way up the Thames. As we got closer to tower bridge the crowds were amazing and lots on spectator boats. The atmosphere was unbelievable. We went under tower bridge then turned round and came back through and into st katherines docks. Our children Jodie Connor Sam and Dana were in the crowd with our granddaughter Freya. Along with Jared Deana Dave Ella Megan sue Dave Julia Steve their friends Lisa and Paul and Carl's mum and dad Doreen and Michael with friends Anne and Michael. And Wendi our friend who we introduced to Sean a circumnavigator and are now a couple. It was lovely seeing them all waving like mad. We moored up around 11.00. I was interviewed by radio Sussex. Then went onto stage once all the boats were in for our presentation of coming 5th place overall. Once we were off the stage we could see all our family and friends. It was so good to be back in London. We went for a drink at the slug and lettuce then for dinner at zizzi : luckily I booked a table a while ago as it was packed.
Once the family left we checked into our hotel. We were meant to go to the crew party but were so tired we fell asleep ! The last race had been intense and tiring but so good.
I posted the following on face book which sums up the experience we have had
Finally Back in London after my epic adventure taking part in the clipper race round the world race on legs 5(Australia - Vietnam - China ) and 8 (New York - Derry - dan helder- London ) sharing this fantastic opportunity with my lovely husband Carl although I so missed our wonderful children Jodie Connor Sam and Dana and grandchildren Freya and Joey.
I had have had an amazing time covering 13,483 Miles and a total of 69 days at sea. It's been such an experience with some highs and lows : beautiful sunrises and sunsets, dolphins swimming along side us, whales and flying fish. Sky's so clear at night filled with stars. Meeting and making new friends from all over the world. I Wasn't keen on the storm going into China that went on for 12 hours with gusts of 90 miles an hour !! And so so sad to have lost my lovely friend Sarah to the Pacific Ocean ( still seems unreal )
One thing I have learnt is life is so precious and there is a beautiful world out there with some amazing people. Don't judge those you meet get to know them and their good sides. Make the most of every moment and every day. Don't put things off, do it, live life to the full enjoy it embrace it and laugh everyday. .... You don't know what is around the corner xx
