Leg 5 -Race 7 - Day 6
When I woke up my t shirt was wet with sweat ! So hot it was 35 degrees. Went up on deck at 11am and we were going through a squall it poured with rain. Lots of the crew decided to come on deck and shower. Lasted about 30 mins. Then as it as it came it went and the sun came out.
We were in front of lmax but spent the next four hours playing cat and mouse going through wind holes changing sails doing everything we could to make the boat go faster.
Couldn't see any other boats just the ocean and lmax.
Got so worn out in the heat really hard work but kept going.
Came of shift and helped cook dinner. Can't believe how calm it is hardly any wind. We took the Eastly route with lmax and a few others whilst the rest of the fleet went west. It will be interesting to see how we get on.
Went off duty 7-11 fans are on but so hot.
When I had finally fallen asleep got woken at 10.30pm but was so tired re woken at 10.50 back on shift for 11pm
Didn't take long to get ready just t shirt and shorts it was still 33 degrees slight breeze but a hot one. We had the wind seeker up as no wind and hardly moving. Couple of times we picked it up and got moving. Lmax still in sight far away but nothing else.
I didn't quiet appreciate how flat and calm the doldrums could be and so still.
Finished shift at 3am. Can't believe we have been at sea for 6 days. All the days seem to merge. On day 12 our watch systems change times which will mean I won't have to cook dinner everyday on new times.
It's been nice chatting to other crew members. It's good we all get on so well. But apparently things change a lot when different leggers join. So I am lucky we have such a good lot.
Miles covered 60: 1.9- 10.2
