Leg 5 - Race 7 - Day 2
Was up at 11am so good to have 8 hours sleep on and off!
The crew are really friendly and all seem to be getting on well with each other.
I am on watch with Matt as watch leader, sophie Caroline and Carl. We work really well together.
I was due to go on standby watch at 15.00 but the race started at 15.30 so all stayed on deck for that.
We had a leman start which meant all boats had to be lined up had a ten minute then four minute countdown to race start. Which meant turn the engine off and get our head sails up. We already had our main sail up.
Four of the men sweated the sails up. I tailed the staysail halyard. After 10 minutes we changed our sail to the spinnaker.
We seemed to do well and became one of the boats in the front.
We had the spinnaker up for a few hours then took it down and put Yankee 2 up.
I went off shift at 7pm then back up at 11.
The winds had dropped so we carried out a racing headsail change at 1am
This meant changing our head sail for a bigger one. We managed to do it in 14 minutes !
Lots of physical hard work and I can feel the bruises coming on where I get bashed about so much.
Went to bed at 3am and boy was I tired and aching.
Covered 204 miles : boat speed 7.8-11.8
