Leg 5 : race 7 : day 10
On shift at 6am porridge for breakfast. Couldn't believe the
drop in temperature had thermals mid layer and foulies on. Not a lot of wind so spent some time making sail ties. Had lunch then went on 8 hours off. Had a sleep straight away as I was so tired then work up watched a film in bed then dozed til 5.
Up on deck around 5.45 had dinner on deck and it was dark. Shift went quickly as busy looking out for boats. When we went on deck there were so many fishing boats on the horizon with the lights so bright it looked like lots of sunrises on the horizon !
We were 4th place when the schedules came through and our boat was the most eastly as we are hoping to pick up the Winds more here. Came off watch at 10pm made 3 loaves of bread. Off to bed at 2am.
Have found it frustrating that some crew members really want to do well in the race and push to do things well. All of our watch are like this. Matt Caroline Sophie Carl and me. But some other crew members from the other watches don't have so much drive and can be laid back or not fussed about making the boat go faster!
I told Matt the watch leader about how I find this frustrating and he said maybe Have to think of it as a sailing Holiday or a cruise ! I suppose some of the boats who are really doing well are all working flat out and may not have as much down time as us.
But the biggest thing is I am learning lots and I am enjoying it
