Hello, Just arrived in Phnom Penh a few hours ago after few hot and sweaty 5 hour bus ride - listening to a tape of annoying cambodian pop music on repeat! Was a bit worried I would have trouble getting here today as the road has been flooded the last couple of days and people have had to get boats across the flooded bit and another bus on the other side - however, although many of the fields were flooded, with the water nearly reaching many houses on stilts, and rivers almost touching bridges, the road was clear today! Yesterday I attended the ''VSO heath day' conference, which was really interesting, seeing what VSO are doing to develop healthcare systems in Cambodia. The director of the hospital my placement is at also did a talk (with translator) about the impact that the two english VSO hospital management advisors that he has had at his hospital over the last 4 years have had (pretty huge!). He was one of the people who had to get a boat across the flooded road to get there! Touchwood, David gets here tomorrow morning. As for now - the sun is out for a change - and seeing as I'm just as pasty white as i was when i set off i'm going to jump in the hotel pool and catch some rays for the rest of the afternoon - such a hard life!
